Classes focus

on all

aspects of fighting

including striking, takedowns, submission grappling and weapon defense.

BJA Instructor Rob Magao has over 20 years of martial arts experience and holds black belts in Bushido Jujitsu and Goju Ryu Karate. Rob also holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu under Kenny Florian. Rob and his students frequently compete in NAGA submission grappling tournaments around the country. Rob has successfully trained several of his students to win state, regional and national grappling championships.
He has over 9 years experience as a police officer and has worked in patrol, street crimes and the detective division. Rob is currently assigned to a Hartford County S.W.A.T. team and assists in organizing the Connecticut SWAT Challenge. He has also competed in the prestigious World SWAT Challenge in Little Rock Arkansas.
Rob is a certified Advanced L.O.C.K.U.P. Arrest and Control Instructor, Ground Combat Instructor, Handcuffing Instructor, Baton Instructor and Simunition Scenario Instructor. Rob has trained hundreds of police officers throughout New England and is responsible for training officers from 14 different police departments in Connecticut every year. He also assisted in the production of “Jujitsu Volumes 1 and 2” DVDs available at Turtle Press
 

 

BJA Instructor James Kodzis holds black belts in Bushido Jujitsu and Shorin Ryu Karate. He also holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu under Kenny Florian. He has over 20 years experience in the martial arts including Jujitsu, Karate, Wrestling and Boxing. He has worked in law enforcement for over a decade and has trained hundreds of police officers in ground fighting throughout New England including at the Connecticut Police Academy. He has worked in patrol, K9 handler/trainer and tactical officer (S.W.A.T.).  Sensei Kodzis has been featured in “Jujitsu Volume 1” “Jujitsu Volume 2” and “Police Ground Combat” instructional DVDs available at www.turtlepress.com. His approach to Jujitsu blends modern technique with traditional principles resulting in a technically precise style that is well suited for self-defense.
